The Diversity Scholars Program is designed to recognize students who demonstrate academic excellence and reward students that exhibit strong leadership skills and strive to create positive change. This program not only awards students for these qualities but also helps students develop as leaders with opportunities to promote and embrace diversity on and off campus. This program brings together students from different cultures and backgrounds to help strengthen unity through diversity at Appalachian State University.

The Diversity Scholars Program offers selected freshman entering Appalachian State University each fall a renewable scholarship in the amount of full instate tuition & fees per year. The program also allows students to become recognized as prestigious individuals among Appalachian faculty, staff, and students through specialized leadership opportunities and increased involvement and service opportunities. Diversity Scholars can pursue any major and will be expected to fulfill established requirements and meet prescribed academic achievement standards. Diversity Scholars for 2017-2018 held an average weighted 4.59 high school GPA and 1304 SAT (critical reading + combined math score).
